How do I bleed a radiator?

A simple task that can make a big difference in keeping your home warm and cozy is bleeding your radiators. Watch the video below to see how it’s done.

  1. Make sure your heating system is turned off. This ensures your radiator has cooled down enough for safe bleeding.
  2. Find the bleed valve on the side of your radiator. It usually looks like a small square nut.
  3. Grab a cloth or towel to catch any drips, and a radiator key. You’ll use these to open the valve.
  4. Insert the key or screwdriver into the valve and turn it counter-clockwise. You should hear a hissing sound. This is the air escaping.
  5. Once the hissing stops and water starts coming out steadily, close the valve by turning it clockwise. Be ready to catch any excess water with your cloth.
  6. Finally, check your boiler pressure. If it’s too low, you may need to top it up following your boiler’s manual.
