Remove any visible debris or gunk from the sink drain.
Try carefully pouring a kettle of hot water down the drain. Hot water can often break down grease and soap residue.
Use a plunger to give a few firm plunges to create pressure and dislodge any blockages.
If you’ve still got standing water in your sink after trying the methods above, you could consider removing the sink trap to look for any blockages. Watch the video below to see how.
Grab a bucket, some towels, and a pair of rubber gloves
The sink trap is the U-shaped pipe under your sink. Find it, and position the bucket underneath to catch any water.
Gently unscrew each end of the trap.
Carefully remove the trap and let any trapped water and debris fall into the bucket.
Inspect the removed trap for any clogs. A wire coat hanger or a small brush can help you clear away any blockage causing the issue.
Once everything is clear, put the trap back in place. Screw each end shut.
Turn the water back on and let it run. Check for leaks and make sure your sink is draining smoothly.
