Starts at Home Day 2025

On Friday 29 August, housing providers across the country will be marking Starts at Home Day – a national campaign that highlights the importance of supported housing and calls for action to #SaveOurSupportedHousing.

A safe home is the foundation of a healthy, secure and happy life. Supported housing gives people who need extra help the chance to live as independently as possible. It supports people experiencing homelessness, young people leaving care, those recovering after illness or hospital stays, people fleeing domestic abuse, veterans, and many more.

Here in Gloucester, we provides supported housing through Hewmar House, where vulnerable young people receive round-the-clock support. Hewmar House is more than just a place to live – it’s a safe environment where young people can build confidence, learn new skills, and take positive steps towards independence.

But these vital services are under pressure. Across the country, years of funding cuts have left supported housing schemes at risk of closure. Without investment, more people could be left without a safe place to turn  which would lead to increasing homelessness, adding pressure to the NHS, and making it harder for people to escape abusive situations.

That’s why this Starts at Home Day, we’re standing alongside housing providers nationwide to call on the government to protect and invest in supported housing.
