GCH Estate Service Team Transforming Outdoor Spaces

Clearing an unsafe bramble-filled alleyway in Tredworth - after

GCH’s Estate Service team is made up from 8 staff split into two teams who focus on maintaining outdoor areas across the City. It is their role to maintain the upkeep of the estates, keeping them tidy and free of rubbish, ensuring that communal areas and gardens are maintained, as well as maintaining the safety of outdoor spaces. The team also use their skills to benefit and support people across Gloucester, including community organisations.

Last year during the first lockdown the Estate Services team helped with an emergency response, ensuring GCH’s most vulnerable residents were able to access supplies whilst they were unable to visit shops. The team have also been involved in the delivery of the Free School Meals Project in 2021 to help children and families during the school holidays.

As well as maintaining outdoor areas in GCH estates, the team also support many community organisations throughout Gloucester, often helping them to save money which can be spent on community support, or just providing a helping hand. Examples include cutting back the large hedge at the front of the Redwell Centre, moving large pieces of equipment or removing and disposing of bulky items/recycling.

GCH’s ESW team also focus on keeping estates presentable, here are some before and afters of their work:

Joe O’Riordan, Senior Estate Services Supervisor at GCH says, “It’s rewarding being able to make a visible difference within communities as our work can benefit so many people. The before and after photos show the big difference we can make within a short period of time. As a team we love being out in the community, assisting people and making a difference where we can.”
