How do I unfreeze my condensate pipe?

If your boiler won’t switch on in freezing weather, you might have a frozen condensate pipe. Watch the video below to see how to unfreeze it.

  1. Locate the condensate pipe: Find the white plastic pipe that comes out of the bottom of your boiler. This is the condensate pipe, and it’s prone to freezing in cold weather.
  2. Check for a blockage: Inspect the pipe for any visible blockages like ice or debris. Gently remove any obstructions, ensuring there’s a clear path for water to flow.
  3. Fill a bucket with warm water and carefully pour it over the frozen section of the condensate pipe. Try not to use boiling water straight from the kettle as this could shatter the pipe.
  4. Prevention tips: Consider insulating the condensate pipe to prevent it from freezing in the first place. And leep an eye on the pipe during cold snaps and thaw it as soon as you notice any freezing.
