The Robinswood is transformed into ten new homes

Yesterday our lettings team began handing over the keys to ten new homes on Matson Avenue – the scene of a devastating pub fire at The Robinswood five years ago.

The new homes are ready to offer a firm foundation for ten families in Matson, built to a high quality and delivering excellent energy-efficiency. These homes will be available at social rent which makes them affordable for families who might otherwise struggle to find a place to live.

Having a look around the new homes were Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing Strategy Stephanie Chambers, city councillors Raymond Padilla and Alastair Chambers, chief of staff to Richard Graham MP Jennie Watkins, and representatives from the local community. Stephanie Chambers commented: “I’ve been following this project for quite some time now and it’s a fantastic development. What really was great today was meeting a new tenant who had just been given her keys and her new life with her son was about to start. It was lovely to see.”

“Affordable homes are fundamental to creating sustainable communities where people can thrive,” says Michael Hill, Executive Director of Customer Experience. “Currently around 5,000 people are on the waiting list in Gloucester either due to homelessness or overcrowding. We need more homes that people can genuinely afford, and this isn’t happening in the private rented sector. That’s why we worked so hard to secure this site.”
