Sun Safety Tips

These tips are really important and set out by the NHS. Its crucial to spend time in the shade when the sun is strongest. In the UK, this is between 11am and 3pm from March to October.

Make sure you:

  • Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm.
  • Make sure you never burn.
  • Cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses.
  • Take extra care with children.
  • Use at least factor 30 sunscreen.

Cooling Your Home Tips

  • Close curtains and blinds – to keep the air inside your home cooler.
  • Freezing water used to create ice can be placed in front of a fan to circulate the cool water (make sure there is a distance between fan).
  • Open windows at both sides of the property if possible – this allows air to circulate (only do this if it is safe to do so and when you are in your home).
  • Turn off unused electrics and lights – as these can generate extra heat.
  • Try to avoid using your oven – especially for long periods of time.
  • Dry wet laundry outside where possible.
  • Open windows when it is cooler to allow the cold air to come into your home (again, only recommended where it is safe to do so).
