A serial fly-tipper who repeatedly dumped waste across Gloucester has been convicted thanks to evidence gathered by members of the public, including CCTV footage provided by GCH to Gloucester City Council.
42-year-old John Sheridan of Park Royal in London received a 30-week jail sentence suspended for 2 years after being convicted of five fly-tipping offences
Thanks to dashcam footage and videos submitted by members of the public, along with CCTV evidence from GCH, the council was able to build a strong case and bring Sheridan before the courts.
In addition to his suspended sentence, Sheridan was ordered to attend up to 20 rehabilitation days and pay £1,187. The van used to carry out the offences has also been seized and crushed.
The case highlights the importance of reporting fly-tipping and the role communities play in helping to tackle environmental crime.
