Community Impact Day Project brings Podsmead Together During Lockdown

A group of Podsmead locals have been working extremely hard during the lockdown period to keep busy and provide for their community. Using the allotment that GCH created using the old drying green at the Podsmead Big Local as one of their projects for their 2018 Community Impact Day, the group have revitalised the community space and been able to use it for the good of the community.

The groups aim was to give the space a new lease of life, as well as using the allotment to grow vegetables to supplement food parcels for the area during the lockdown period.

Lisa, a community volunteer said, “Due to the garden centres being closed at the beginning of lockdown, we started growing everything from seeds. This was interesting but it’s great that the community is working together, especially during lockdown.”

GCH’s Estate Service Team helped to extend the growing space by transporting some topsoil from Chaucer Close. The allotments are now completed and look great.
