Fly-tipping can cost £400. A bulky waste collection starts from £30
Four GCH customers have recently been fined hundreds of pounds for dumping rubbish, following reports and investigations. We work closely with Gloucester City Council to tackle fly-tipping and identify those responsible.
Avoiding a fine is simple. There are legal, affordable ways to get rid of bulky items, starting from just £30.
Since January 2025, Gloucester City Council has issued four Fixed Penalty Notices for fly-tipping on GCH land in Matson. Anyone caught could face a £400 fine and be charged for the clean-up, which can cost far more than disposing of waste properly in the first place.
When dumped rubbish is found on GCH land, we take action. We report it, gather evidence where possible, and work with the Council to investigate. This is how fines and court cases happen.
Fly-tipping is also a breach of your tenancy agreement and can lead to further action. We will report it and support enforcement. A serious environmental crime case is currently going through the courts following a report we made.
And fly-tipping doesn’t just disappear. Someone has to pay to remove it, either the Council or GCH. That cost is often passed on to the community through council tax or, in some cases, service charges. Last year alone, GCH spent £213,000 clearing dumped rubbish.
How to dispose of waste
Bulky waste collections are quick to arrange and far more affordable:
- Up to 3 items — £30
- Each additional item — £10
- Maximum of 6 items — £60
Items that can be collected include furniture, white goods, carpets, garden items, and large electricals.
You can also:
- Take waste to Hempsted Recycling Centre
- Donate usable items to charities such as Emmaus or The Furniture Recycling Project
- Use a licensed waste carrier — always check they are registered, as you could still be held responsible if your waste is dumped illegally
