This role is based at Hewmar House, GCH’s exciting, new Young Persons Supported Accommodation scheme. Please note that this role forms part of a rota that covers 7-days per week, therefore weekend working is required regularly. This role is also not suitable for compressed hours. The scheme operates on a 24/7 staffed basis, however the hours for this role will only be required between 7:45am – 10:00pm. No night working is required.

The opportunity

It’s an exciting time for us as we have recently acquired a new homeless property to support young people aged 18-25 at risk of homelessness and rough sleeping.

Because of this, we’re now seeking a Support Worker –someone to support young people with multiple and complex needs, so they can articulate and achieve their aspirations and ambitions and acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives.

Within this role, you’ll deliver one to one key work sessions, groupwork and activities through the support model so that residents can access tailored solutions that meet their needs, wishes and aspirations. You’ll work creatively and effectively alongside young people to inspire and encourage them to develop their talents as they seek employment, volunteering, and training opportunities.

Ensuring young people are encouraged to take responsibility for their own personal development, to engage with the services on offer and build strong networks and connections within the local community to sustain their journey when they move on, you’ll ensure their views, aspirations, concerns, and ideas are sought so they can play an active role in influencing the services they receive.

We’d like you to have…

  • GCSE/NVQ Level 2 in relevant subjects, or equivalent expertise through relevant CPD training/experience relating to housing, support work, and/or working with young people or adults at risk.
  • Ability to work proactively with a caseload of young people with multiple and complex needs to enable them to achieve independent living.
  • Experience of dealing effectively and proactively with clients, in difficult situations where it is not always possible to meet customer needs/wishes.
  • Ability to use IT systems, including PCs, mobile phones, digital cameras and PDA’s, to gather, store and process information.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with a strong customer focus.
  • The ability to give accurate and up to date advice, information, and support on a broad range of topics.
  • The ability to understand the needs and perceptions of clients; handling difficult situations sensitively together with the ability to understand the needs of different client groups and individuals; including the ability to deal with complex mental health, substance abuse and violent behaviour.
  • Knowledge of the principles of psychologically informed environments, trauma informed care and strengths-based support.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.

We’re now seeking an Assurance Officer – someone to deliver high-quality, efficient and professional performance & assurance reporting and insurance management which supports the organisation to retain a G1 rating.

You’ll support the delivery of the internal audit contract, including liaising with internal audit and services and communicate key information to ensure the effective delivery of the audit plan. You’ll lead on the coordination of follow up actions and support reporting of progress, undertaking an agreed programme of 2nd line assurance reviews across GCH.

With timely and appropriate internal and external communication of the Governance team’s work including related sector news, you’ll track and understand assurances across the organisation, drawing together key information for reporting to senior management, Audit and Risk Committee and Board and be responsible for ensuring adequate insurance provision for the organisation, management of claims, liaising with Insurance Brokers and Insurance Companies.

You’ll ensure that Data Protection compliance is proactively prioritised across the organisation and resourced appropriately to ensure key delivery which minimises organisational risks and take the lead in ensuring subject access requests are appropriately supported including end to end meeting administration support.

We’d like you to have…

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
  • Experience of report writing and presentation to Executive Leadership Teams and Governing bodies.
  • Experience of Data Protection and Compliance work.
  • Have experience in Social Housing Regulation and compliance, or similar regulated environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of insurance cover, claims procedures and renewal of policies.
  • Strong communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • The ability to influence others through negotiation, advice, and persuasion.

At our new and exciting young person’s supported housing property we are required to be agile to meet the changing and evolving needs on a day-to-day basis for the scheme. We are now seeking a Handyperson – someone to provide a professional and effective facilities and service, including the cleaning, decoration and maintenance of vacant rooms, maintenance of internal & external communal areas and carrying out minor repairs, reporting any repairs identified and liaising with GCH’s Homeless Accommodation Officers on any Customer anti-social behaviour and safeguarding concerns.

You’ll ensure rooms are made available to re-let within 36 hours through proactive services, undertake environmental work in gardens where applicable, including strimming, mowing lawns, weeding, and trimming, ensure recycling and general waste areas are kept clean and managed and test the fire alarm and water systems weekly in all our Homeless schemes and record this appropriately and conclude monthly flushing of our water systems and record this on a spreadsheet each month.

Liaising closely with our Voids, Homeless and Estates Team and attending all training required, wearing any protective equipment supplied whilst working on site, you’ll ensure all equipment is regularly checked, then returned and stored safely & securely at the end of the working day and that our homeless properties comply with current and future legislation and that it adheres to GCH policies and procedures to ensure that our statutory Health and Safety requirements are met.

We’d like you to…

  • Have experience of decorating and cleaning domestic properties, including knowledge and experience of providing minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Have experience of using IT systems, including PC’s, mobile phones, digital cameras to gather, store and process information with an understanding of the benefits of IT to monitor and enhance service delivery.
  • Have experience of keeping accurate records on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.
  • Have experience of testing fire alarms systems
  • Have experience Legionella and importance of water testing and flushing to required legislation.
  • Have experience of using power tools and garden equipment.
  • Be able to work as part of a team taking responsibility of good communication with team members and a positive approach to solving problems
  • Have good understanding of Health and Safety law, practices, and compliance requirements as they relate to temporary accommodation.

You must have a Full UK Driving License. Access to a company vehicle will be provided during working hours.
