Supporting outdoor learning at Kingsholm Primary School

Children at Kingsholm Primary School are benefitting from improved outdoor learning opportunities thanks to support from our Community Impact Grants programme.

We have funded a new polytunnel for the school allotment, which is run by Project Grow CIC, a Gloucester-based community organisation using growing and food projects to support health, wellbeing and community life.

The allotment is used for twice-weekly outdoor classroom sessions led by Project Grow’s community urban farmer, Hannah. Through hands-on activities, children learn about growing food, nature and healthy eating while spending time outdoors.

We have also funded a month’s salary for Hannah, helping Project Grow continue its work while the organisation seeks longer-term funding.

Beyond the school sessions, Hannah also supports free community veg boxes and therapeutic horticulture activities for vulnerable and isolated people across Gloucester.

The funding comes through our Community Impact Grants scheme, which provides ring-fenced funding each year for projects that benefit tenants and local neighbourhoods. Grants support initiatives linked to health and wellbeing, skills, employment, financial inclusion and community development.
