With the warmer weather many tenants and residents may be enjoying the longer days, taking day trips, or if lucky enough to have one, spending time in their gardens or communal areas. Some residents may be bringing out garden furniture, BBQs, or outdoor toys.
The National Housing Federation has teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks, who provide the My Home Contents Insurance Scheme. The policy covers the contents and personal belongings for tenants and residents in social housing against loss or damage from specific events (e.g fire, theft or escape of water).
The My Home Contents Insurance Scheme offers automatic cover for loss or damage to contents of sheds, garages and outbuildings caused by theft or attempted theft, that form part of the home, up to £3000. Additionally, the scheme also covers loss or damage up to £200 for garages owned or rented away from the home. It also includes protection for plants, trees, and shrubs and for contents in communal areas. Residents can also request to add personal possessions cover (for items away from the home), for an additional premium. Changes to cover can be made at any time without incurring fees.
The Scheme has other benefits such as:
- Apply over the telephone or complete an editable application form.
- You don’t need to have special door or window locks; you just need a lockable front door.
- Flexible regular payment options, you can pay fortnightly or monthly by cash using a swipe card, monthly by direct debit, or annually by credit/debit card, (fortnightly and monthly premiums include a transaction charge).
Limits and exclusions apply.
