Gloucester City Homes provides an Independent Living service to assist people to stay independent in their own homes. The service offers:
|We manage a range of sheltered housing schemes across the City for people aged 55 or over.
We aim to provide all of our sheltered housing customers with a quality service which maximises independence and promotes wellbeing through a well-trained, professional and diverse staff group.
Our sheltered housing properties are designed to enable tenants to maintain their independence in a safe and positive environment. Most of our schemes provide a mix of one and two bedroom properties.
All sheltered housing schemes benefit from a large communal area that includes a lounge, kitchen and computer access. All schemes also have an on-site or visiting independent living scheme officer and a robust security system which includes a 24 hour emergency call system.
GCH has 10 sheltered schemes across Gloucester city in the following areas:

Semi – Sheltered Properties
We also have 4 Semi-sheltered housing schemes which consist of self-contained accommodation, usually bungalows, designated for older people. There are no communal facilities but they are linked to the nearest member of staff based on a sheltered scheme.
Allocation of both sheltered and semi-sheltered accommodation is run through Gloucestershire Homeseeker and we cannot take any direct applications.

We have dedicated staff delivering activities across our sheltered housing schemes focusing on Health and Wellbeing and combatting social isolation. We produce a monthly programme of activities across our sheltered schemes that anyone over the age of 55 is welcome to attend. (Some activities have a small charge to cover running costs).
Our support officers are dedicated to supporting tenants in maintaining their independence for as long as possible through tenancy sustainment, offering advice and support in many areas, including:
- Low level anti-social behaviour
- Rent arrears
- Social isolation
- Alcohol dependency
- Mental health
- Managing your tenancy agreement
All tenants have the option of having a Lifelink telecare alarm unit installed, providing the reassurance of help if needed. There is a small weekly charge for this service, please visit the Lifelink website. Lifelink now also offers a responder service where we can act as your emergency contact.
