Gloucester City Homes (GCH) has raised over £1000 for those in need over the Christmas period. The donations have been raised by the company, its staff and contractors Glevum Heating, Snape, SRI Decorating & Building, Slatters Electrical, & Gary Roofing.
The money has been used to buy 12 high specification sleeping bags for the homeless, essential food for meals, Christmas confectionary, sanitary products and toiletries. The donations were delivered to the Foodbank and Gloucester City Mission on 20th December ahead of the Christmas period, which sees many in poverty.
Lynne Phillips who coordinated the collection comments: “At this time of year, money is particularly tight for many, with children having no access to school meals and additional expenditure for winter fuel and Christmas, meaning people have to make very difficult decisions on what to spend money on. Staff at GCH are always willing to contribute to a festive donation of Christmas foods, everyday essential grocery and toiletry items. As ever they have contributed generously, as has the company and partners from the construction industry we work with.
We recognise that the homeless also deserve comfort and the new Gloucester Mission overnight Shelter means that, at least for the coldest months, there is some provision of warm safe shelter, hot food and showers, medical and personal care in Gloucester. We are delighted to donate a dozen top of the range sleeping bags and a large range of toiletries for the use of anyone using the Shelter.”
