Annual Garden Competition Winners Announced

This summer Gloucester City Homes (GCH) hosted its fourteenth annual Garden Competition. Each year the competition celebrates the hard work and pride that people put into their gardens which makes Gloucester’s communities more vibrant places to live.

During June and July tenants were invited to enter the competition which asked if they had the best garden in Gloucester.

We are pleased to announce this year’s winners as ‘Tenant Winner’ Catarina from Matson, ‘Non-Tenant Winner’ Gayna from Quedgeley and ‘Runner Up’ Mr & Mrs Scanlon from Tuffley.

Votes were placed through Facebook and an impressive 664 votes were cast.

This year’s competition saw a wide variety of gardens enter, including wildlife gardens, upcycled gardens and balcony gardens.

Tenant Winner, Catarina’s garden received an impressive 79 votes, with the majority of its content being upcycled or built from scratch. She said: “I moved into my property in January and started working on the garden in April. It’s still a ‘work in progress’ as I still have lots to do! I have always been creative and have enjoyed gardening from a young age. Being a single parent, I want everyone to know that anyone can enjoy gardening, whatever your budget and ability. My garden is my sanctuary and I can’t wait to finish it.”

Runner’s Up Mr & Mrs Scanlon work very hard on their colourful garden, with several water features the garden is extremely peaceful. They have previously won the garden competition for best house garden in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Mr Scanlon commented, “We are delighted to have been voted runner up this year, having won the garden competition before. We love gardening and work as a team to maintain it.”

Non-Tenant winner Gayna, took to gardening as an activity to calm her anxiety. She added: “I am thrilled to have been voted the non-tenant winner, gardening helps me massively with my anxiety and my garden has become a place of calm for me.”

Jason Humphries Tenancy Services and ASB Manager congratulates all entrants saying: “Thank you to all who entered this year’s competition, the hard work put into each garden is very impressive and residents should be proud. We are pleased that the competition allows residents across the city to showcase their colourful gardens to a range of local people.”
